Carolina took Murphy with the 12th overall pick in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft. "Ryan is a gifted offensive defenseman," said Hurricanes president/GM Jim Rutherford. Raleigh, NC (Sports Network) - The Carolina Hurricanes signed defenseman Mathieu Roy to a one-year, two-way contract on Wednesday. The 28-year-old will make $600,000 in the NHL and $125,000 in the AHL next season. Roy played in just four scoreless games with Tampa Bay a season ago, but has totaled two goals and 13 points in 65 appearances with Edmonton, Columbus and the Lightning since 2005-06.
